Work to convert the former Union Carriage Works in Preston into what the developer has described as the city’s first loft scheme has completed.
Developer Etc Urban Developments’ £3.5m Guildhall Street project, which began in August 2018, comprises 18 spacious duplex apartments, created in an urban loft style, located 150m from Fishergate Shopping Centre.
Known as The Union Lofts, the duplexes sit above 4,000 sq ft of ground floor office space and comprise 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom homes.
Nine of the apartments, which each measure 1,025 sq ft, come with west-facing roof terraces overlooking Winckley Square. Owners and residents will also have access to an underground car park.
The project is part of Preston’s City Living Strategy, which aims to improve the residential offer in Preston city centre by delivering new residential schemes across the city over the next decade. The development has been supported by the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership’s £20m Growing Places Investment Fund.

“It’s taken a lot of vision and belief to have converted a forgotten 123-year old warehouse, that had been left abandoned for decades, into a stylish residential scheme that is now a flagship development for Preston.
“The commercial space, too, will bring life and vitality at street level and the mixed-use scheme can act as a catalyst for further regeneration and residential projects helping to drive economic growth and create jobs in and around Preston’s city centre.”
The architect for the project is Chase Architecture and the contractor is Manchester-headquartered Workspace Design & Build.
