Friargate to reopen as Corporation Street closes in phase four of UCLan Masterplan roadworks

Highways work on the University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) £200m Masterplan development is entering its next phase.

Friargate, Moor Lane and a new road replacing the Adelphi roundabout will fully reopen to traffic from Monday, 19 October at the latest.

Walker Street is due to open in mid-November, while Adelphi Street will remain closed until early spring.

As part of the next phase of roadworks, Corporation Street will close to all road users from Sunday, 18 October, between Edward Street and Kendal Street, and is expected to stay closed until March 2021 with all road users diverted down Friargate as an alternative route.

Motorists turning right onto Ringway to access Fishergate or Preston Docks are recommended to use Heatley Street to return to Corporation Street.

Balfour Beatty Operations Manager, Graeme Moffat, said: “We would like to thank the public for their co-operation as we make progress and move into Phase Four of the highways scheme.

“Our dedicated teams and supply chain partners continue to work efficiently and safely throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, strictly adhering to Balfour Beatty’s Site Operating Procedures to ensure the continued health, safety and wellbeing of all those who work for and with us.”

The University would like to remind motorists that at weekends UCLan car parks are available and free for general public use.
