A popular coffee company might be opening it’s third drive-through in Preston after insisting that motorists near Lea need access to a coffee.
Costa Coffee have applied to open another drive-through on Blackpool Road near Lea. Plans were submitted to rebuild and refurbish the Lea Gate Filling Station on Blackpool Road.
Costa already have two drive-through’s in Preston with one at the Fulwood Central Shopping Site in Eastway and another at the Queen Street Retail Park on Stanley Street.
A statement to the Council said:
“It has been found in recent years that motorists’ needs are not provided for and there has, therefore, been a major growth in drive thru’s.
“A model has been developed where drive thru’s have been attached to petrol filling stations and this is because there is a synergy between the uses by motorists stopping for fuel who may collect an item from the convenience store or, alternatively, stop for coffee in the adjacent Costa Coffee drive thru’.”
The plan states that Costa would demolish the Lea Gate garage and replace it with a new building. The new building would be a state-of-the-art facility with a convenience shop and a separate Costa which would operate 24 hours a day.
