Mid-Week Round Up: The Botanist and Mowgli sign up in Preston, Matalan Open In St. George’s

Major investment in Preston continues with three national companies signing up to take units in Preston City Centre – With one already open!

News broke last week that InfraRed Capital Partners were able to secure two lettings at the St George’s Shopping Centre as it looks to build a 28,000 sq ft restaurant quarter.

The Botanist has signed up as an anchor tenant for the development’s largest unit, taking 10,000 sq ft on a 15-year lease. Indian street food operator Mowgli has also signed up for a 3,400 sq ft unit, again on a 15-year lease, and both of these will open in autumn 2020.

The development fronting Friargate includes another three leisure units. Earlier this year, InfraRed also secured a 26,000 sq ft anchor letting to Malatan within the 284,000 sq ft shopping centre which opened it’s doors earlier this month.

Matalan have an entrance facing Lune Street and began trading on Wednesday 16th October. The first 200 shoppers were handed a golden envelope with vouchers to spend in store.

The first Matalan store in the UK opened in Bamber Bridge, just outside Preston, in 1985.

All three developments are seen as a major sign of confidence in Preston’s growing emergence as a city of investment.
