Next year’s Preston Carnival is gearing up to be an extraordinary celebration, marking its 50th anniversary in grand style. Scheduled for the bank holiday weekend from Friday, May 24, to Sunday, May 26, this iconic event remains a significant recognition of Preston’s vibrant Caribbean community.
The Carnival is a joyous, family-friendly tribute to cultural heritage, uniting people through mesmerising dance, captivating music, and dazzling costumes. As a precursor to the milestone anniversary, a city centre fashion show will showcase the stunning Carnival costumes crafted over the past five decades.
The jubilant festivities will kick off on Friday, featuring international DJs and special appearances. Saturday’s ‘One Park’ musical extravaganza promises the best in reggae music, alongside a bespoke Caribbean village to explore.
Sunday, the highlight of the event, will witness an extended street procession and a vibrant park celebration. The Preston Carnival team expressed their anticipation, inviting everyone to join the parade and honour the elders who bestowed this Carnival tradition upon Preston. The park festivities aim to transport attendees back to 1974 with live performances, steel bands, delectable cuisines, and engaging activities for families.
Renowned as Preston’s largest independent event, the Carnival anticipates hosting over 40,000 visitors across the weekend in 2024.
