Preston Shopping Area Set for Significant Transformation

Preston’s main shopping district is gearing up for a significant overhaul in a bid to breathe new life into the area, entice fresh retailers, and tackle the problem of empty units.

Plans were recently unveiled for the southern stretch of Friargate, between Ringway and the Flag Market. These proposals entail laying new paving and introducing cycle lanes to the already pedestrianised road, aligning with the ongoing pedestrianisation of Friargate North. The goal is to better connect the university and Harris quarters.

Preston City Council has invited residents and businesses to offer their thoughts on the proposed Friargate South changes until January 21.

Matthew Brown, leader of Preston City Council, remains hopeful that the refurbishment will draw new retailers and contribute to the city’s plans for cultural enrichment and diverse leisure offerings.

He said: “It will also make the area more attractive [and] encourage new retail outlets to the area – and fits in with our plans for cultural enrichment and diversity of leisure and entertainment in the central hub.”

At Click Estate Agents, we thrive on community spirit and are excited to witness initiatives aimed at revitalising Preston’s shopping precincts.
