Work has started to convert two properties in Fulwood.
The properties at 327 and 329 Garstang Road were previously used by the owners of the Chemist next door as a home and offices. They are now set to have the ground floor converted into commercial/retail use, and the upper level into seven self-contained bedrooms with a shared kitchen.
The planning application states that the proximity of Royal Preston Hospital makes the conversion ideal for hospital staff accommodation.
The project will see internal and external alterations to the existing property, such as a new roof.
A small, new first floor extension will be built over the existing single storey at the back of the building, to provide additional upper floor accommodation.
The property is surrounded by commercial buildings including the Sai Surbhi restaurant.
The planning application says changing the ground floor into a commercial space will help create a small local centre based around the Sharoe Green Lane and Black Bull Lane junction.
It also says the development has the potential to create ten new jobs.
Up to ten car parking spaces will be added to the rear of the building for residents.
